 This artist's rendition of mitochondria shows many tiny
 lollipop like structures, which line the interior of the
 mitochondria.

 They’re called F1 particles also known as ATPase. They
 contain an enzyme that allows the oxygen we breathe to
 permit the synthesis of the fuel called ATP.

 This is called aerobic metabolism.

 Red cells cannot undergo this reaction; they only
 carry oxygen. Lacking  mitochondria, red cells cannot
 undergo this energy storage very efficiently
