New Rendition of F1 Mitochondrial Particle: Mechanical Structure

                                      Part III

Recent research has described in detail the structure of
the tiny mitochondrial F1 particles that we could only
 partially see years ago.

Now we see that F1 particles have a mechanical
chemical structure. There is a base, which rotates,
a head which can move in and out of the membrane.

All of this contributes to the consumption of oxygen
 and the formation of ATP.

Every mitochondrion has thousands and thousands
of these F1 particles. And within cells there are
thousands and thousands of mitochondria; this
is where the body generates almost all of its energy.

In Part lll we will discuss how the heart is damaged
 when mitochondrial processes fail.
